2/18: Redwood Varsity opened the season at Rancho Cotate in Rohnert Park with a 5-0 victory. Kent Goodman got the start for the Giants and he pitched 2 solid innings without giving up a run and striking out 5. Unfortunately, Goodman twisted his ankle on the base paths and had to be carried off the field. He was not able to return to the game. Nick Gehrman took the mound in relief and pitched 2 solid innings, not giving up any hits or runs.  Johnny Bayler pitched the final 3 innings and also didn’t give up any runs.

On offense, the Giants tallied 8 hits, including 3 by Charlie Welch. Merritt Brinckerhoff also had a multi-hit game with 2 hits. Luca Bove, Colin Cuneen, and Rex Solle also had hits for the Giants. All in all, a solid start for the team.
