Redwood Frosh top San Rafael under the lights

Albert Park was the setting for an 11-3 win for the Redwood Freshmen over San Rafael High. Redwood scored the eleven runs with the benefit of only five hits but also walked ten times, had four batters hit by pitches and benefited from San Rafael making five errors in the contest.

Redwood secured the victory with an eight run outburst in the fourth inning on only two hits.  Nick Welch and Alex Hagen each drove in two runs with two out singles.  In fact, six of the eight runs in the inning came with two outs.  The rest of the damage came about as San Rafael pitchers issued fours walks and hit two batters. Lucas Roy added an RBI groundout and Ben Rafner tallied an RBI with a bases loaded walk.  When it was all over Redwood had its highest scoring inning of the year.

The first run of the game came one inning earlier in the third when Roy and Matt Birchenough executed a double steal with Birchenough crossing the plate.  Redwood added two more runs in the top of the sixth with Issak Kreft driving in Jonathan Yu with an RBI groundout and Aaron Kim followed that at bat with an RBI single to left that plated Zach Bjursten making the final score 11-3.

Birchenough started the game and went four innings giving up just three hits and one run while striking out three.  Drake Goodman pitched the fifth holding San Rafael scoreless and Lucas Roy then finished it off pitching the last two innings.
