Redwood would need just five innings to secure a 10-0 road win on a hot Saturday at Terra Linda High School.
The Giants pushed one run across in the top of the first when Matt Birchenough scored on a passed ball but it wouldn’t be until the fourth inning when they would score again. With the help of two walks and two errors Redwood scored seven times in the inning while sending eleven hitters to the plate. Willie Sine drove in the first run with a single to center scoring Jesse Gassman. Aaron Kim drew a bases loaded walk to drive in the second run of the inning making it 3-0 Redwood. Two more runs scored as the result of a Terra Linda error and then Nick Welch hit a sacrifice fly to score Aaron Kim who tagged up on the play. Zach Bjursten made it 7-0 Giants when he singled in Birchenough. After advancing to second Bjursten scored on a two out single by Jesse Gassman to complete the scoring for the inning and an 8-0 lead.
Meanwhile the Redwood pitching was holding Terra Linda without a hit. Drake Goodman and Lucas Roy combined on the five inning no hitter while striking out a combined five Trojan hitters.
In the top of the fifth Jack Van Hooser drew a one out walk on four pitches. Jackson Reed then singled driving in Van Hooser who had earlier advanced to second without a throw. Reed then moved to second again without a throw. With two outs Alex Hagen came in as a pinch hitter and delivered a single to center scoring Reed and making it 10-0 Redwood and forcing Terra Linda to come up with a run in the bottom of the inning to extend the game. Roy would have none of that as he retired the side in order and sent the Giants fans home early.
