March 18, 2016, Endriss Field, Larkspur. Coach Taber Watson re-tooled his Freshman Baseball squad this evening, starting a completely new lineup against Terra Linda High School. The depth of Redwood’s freshman baseball team was apparent from the start, as the Giants notched their seventh victory with a 10 to 0 thumping of the outmatched Trojans.
Kyle Felder started on the hill tonight for the Giants and pitched three dominant no-hit innings. The Giants needed very little effort to get the scoring started after Terra Linda’s starting pitcher could not get out of the inning, giving up four walks to load the bases for Ryan Jessen, who drove the ball to left center, scoring Zack Gordon and Sam Warren. After Terra Linda pulled their starting pitcher, it was Bryce Jehling’s turn to drive a ball to right center, scoring Enzo Santa. More walks were given up before Jarod Robinow blew the game wide open with a base hit. The Giants ended the first inning with a commanding 8-0 lead.
In the top of the second inning, Kyle Felder’s curve ball was as devastating as his fastball. Felder was unhitable the rest of the day. The Giants added the rest of the games runs in the bottom half of the second, with hits from Jacob Kilonsky, Kyle Felder and Jarod Robinow’s second of the day to stretch the lead to 10 to 0.
Jeremy Sellier entered the game to pitch the top of the fourth along with Nick Cook. The Giants ended any hope of the Trojans’ scoring when catcher Sam Warren threw out the TL baserunner at second base with a perfect seed to Thomas Durtchi. The Giants left Nick Cook in the game to finish off the Trojan’s in five innings-mercy indeed.
The Freshman squad is now 7 and 0. The team is scheduled to play away at Drake High school next Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 4:30 p.m. and then back home vs. Terra Linda on Saturday March 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. GO GIANTS!
