JV Remain On Top of MCAL Standings, Beat San Rafael 3-2

On a day where runs came at a premium, Redwood stayed on course and beat San Rafael High, 3-2. The Giants scored one run in the first inning after Nick Cook singled to right-field and made his way to third (after several wild pitches). Starting pitcher, Kyle Felder, then knocked Cook home with a single to right-field (1-0, Redwood).

The Giants seemed to be distancing themselves from the Bulldogs in the fourth inning. Felder was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Eric Simonson entered the game to run for Felder. Jake Nordstrom then singled to left, advancing Simonson to second. Jackson bender laid down a sacrifice bunt, moving both Simonson and Nordstrom into scoring position. Sam Warren then came through with a timely double to center, scoring both runners. Warren would get tagged out on the base path to end the inning (3-0, Redwood).

San Rafael stuck around and would narrow the lead in the sixth inning with two unearned runs (3-2, Redwood). Relief pitcher, Nick Cook, kept his composure, however, and the Giants held on to the one run lead. Great defensive plays by Zack Gordon and Haiden Jones backed up Cooks saving effort.

In the bottom of the seventh, Cook induced two ground ball outs at first and the final out in center-field to secure the win. Warren, Morken, Cook, Felder, Nordstrom and Bender each had one hit on a day the Giants made the best of the spotty hitting. Giants’ pitchers, Felder and Cook, combined for a five hit, six strikeout day, needing 102 pitches to win the contest. Final Score: 3-2

Next, the 16-2 Giants will take on Terra Linda High School this Friday, the 28th, at Terra Linda. First pitch-4:30 p.m.
