JV Giants Topple Marin Catholic

4/18/23  Redwood cruised to an easy victory at Endriss Field on Tuesday afternoon, beating the Marin Catholic Wildcats 7-0.
Right-hander Jack Gurley took the mound for the Giants, and he faced his biggest threat of the day in the first inning.  A single, a stolen base, and a passed ball put a man on third with no outs.  The next batter fouled out to Jordan Kimball at first base, forcing the runner to hold at third.  The three-hitter knocked a comebacker to Gurley, who calmly threw home to catcher Miles Harrison to get the runner charging in from third base.  After another single put two men on with two outs, shortstop Jake Huddleston snared a weak fly ball for the third out, ending the threat.
The Giants plated a pair in the 2nd inning on singles by Harrison, Cole Engstrom, and Huddleston.  After a 1-2-3 inning from Gurley in the 3rd, the Giants came back to bat and dropped four runs on the Wildcats.  The fun started with a double from Carter Capobianco, who was soon driven in with an RBI single from Ryan Scott.  Kimball plated Scott with an infield single, Zach Davis singled, and then Engstrom drove both of them in with his second hit of the game.
The Giants would add one more in the 4th on a walk by Scott and a booming double from Harrison.  The Giants totaled 11 hits on the day.  Marin Catholic scattered six hits against Gurley, but never really threatened after the 1st inning.  Zach Davis came in to the pitch the 7th and made quick work of things with a 1-2-3 inning.
The Giants are now 15-3 on the season, and 7-2 in MCAL play.  They’ll head to Marin Catholic to play the Wildcats again on Friday afternoon.
