Ace Oliver Pearson twirled four strong innings with 8 strikeouts and just one earned run, and Blake Cusick finished things off with three innings of no-walk, one-run pitching. Redwood’s strong pitching was backed up by the Giants’ “bend don’t break” defense, forcing CN to strand 11 baserunners. Redwood’s offense started strong with 2 runs in the first inning, and two more in the fourth. CN threatened in the fifth with its first run and multiple runners on base waiting to make it close. Redwood escaped that scare, added two more runs in the fifth and one in the sixth, then held CN to just one run in the seventh. Redwood’s offense continued what it started in the team’s last game, logging another 14 hits from eight different batters. Dane Goodman led the way, going 4-4 with a double, a stolen base, two RBIs and a run. Drew Jacks (2 runs), Oliver Pearson, and Noah Arrick contributed two hits apiece, and Riley Marsh, Wyatt McCullough, Sean McKenna and Josh Katz rounded off the 14 hits. JV has a week to continue to hone their skills before they face Montgomery (away) next on March 8.
