4/21: The frosh Giants jumped on San Marin with a six-run first inning and never looked back, defeating the Mustangs 14-1 on Saturday afternoon in Novato. With the victory, Redwood’s season record stands at 14-1.
Ben Cohen got the start on the mound for the Giants and pitched two and one-third innings of one-run ball before having to exit early with a blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand. Cohen was relieved by Jake Zesiger and then Zane Kempler, each of whom put up zeros to take the game through five innings, after which it was called due to MCAL mercy rules.
Cohen, Tommy Quanstrom and J.T. Dyer were the hit leaders on the day for Redwood with two each. Cohen, Mikey Bender and Dyer lead the team in runs scored on the day with two apiece.
The frosh have a double dose of San Rafael this week – Monday at Endriss Field and Thursday at San Rafael High. First pitch for both games is at 4:30 PM.
