4/14: Mikey Bender threw a complete game no-hitter to lead the freshman Giants to a 10-0 win over San Rafael under the lights at Albert Park on Saturday night. Bender overwhelmed the Bulldogs, striking out eleven over his seven innings while walking only three. The Giants upped their record to 11-1 on the season.
The Giants broke the game open early with a six-run second inning, highlighted by RBI hits by Bender, Charlie Ginsburg, Ben Cohen, Tommy Quanstrom and Sam McIntosh.
That was more than enough for Bender, who used excellent fastball command to move the ball all over the four strike zone quadrants and overpower the Bulldog hitters throughout the night. In addition to his fine pitching, Bender also led the Giants in hits on the evening with two.
Next up for the frosh (weather permitting) is Drake on Monday afternoon – 4:30 PM at Endriss Field.
