4/13: The freshman Giants traveled to Moraga on Friday afternoon and behind another strong start from pitcher Ben Cohen defeated Campolindo by a score of 2-1.
The game was scoreless through the first five innings as Cohen and Campo pitcher Chris Ruane matched each other zero for zero. The Giants finally got on the board in the top of the sixth. Ethan Crawford got things started with a one out walk. After stealing second and advancing to third on a groundout, Thomas Johnson came through with the key base hit that had eluded the Giants in the prior five innings, lining a sharp single to left to score Crawford.
Cohen completed his outing by retiring Campo in order in the bottom of the sixth. Cohen notched seven strikeouts in his six innings of work and yielded only two hits.
The Giants added what would turn out to be a handy insurance run in the top of the seventh. Bodie Jehling led off with a single to left. Charlie Ginsburg followed with a bunt single. Sam McIntosh then drove Jehling home with a single to left, and headed into Campo’s last at bat Redwood led 2-0.
Closer J.T. Dyer came on in relief and notched the save, with Jack Watson recording the final out on a deep fly to center.
Ginsburg led the Giants in hits on the day with three. The Giants record for the season now stands at 10-1.
Next game for the frosh will be their only night game of the year – against San Rafael on Saturday at Albert Park at 6:30 PM.
