March 16, 2016-Endriss Field, Larkspur, CA. Redwood’s Freshmen Baseball Team kicked off their 2016 campaign with a convincing 5 to 1 win over Drake High School. Robbie Wilson pitched a complete game giving up his bid for a no-hitter after 6 1/3 innings of scoreless no hit pitching.
After a scoreless first two innings, Redwood started the bottom of the third with a Genke Leclaire single. Jack Morken kept his hitting streak alive with a hard drive to right center, scoring Genke LeClaire from first base. Dean Watson was hit by a pitch setting up Jackson Barry who came through with a two RBI single-scoring Jack Morken and Dean Watson. 3-0 after three innings.
The boys turned a impressive double play to to start the top of the 4th inning when Jackson Barry scooped up a grounder and threw to Genke who made the turn to Evan Solter. The bottom half of the 4th got a pure hustle start from Sam Warren to outrun the defense for a single. Genke doubled to right field scoring a fast moving Warren from first. 4-0 redwood after four.
After going three up three down, Redwood started the bottom half of the 5th with Enzo Santa walking to first. Evan Solter then got involved and knocked home another run making the contest 5-0. Throwing a “no-no” into the final frame, Robbie Wilson gave up his bid to no hit the opener with a pesky single up the middle. Bryce Jehling and Jared Robinow entered the game to contribute to the victory, with Bryce getting a nice hit to right field.
The 6 and 0 Giants will take on Terra Linda Highschool this Friday back at Endriss Field with a 4:30 pm first pitch. Go Giants!
