March 26, 2016: Redwood’s Freshman Baseball squad remained perfect today with a 12 to 1 trouncing of Terra Linda High School. Evan Solter started on the hill for the Giants, throwing two and 1/3 innings of no-hit baseball. Redwood’s defense did allow one run, but the error would amount to a small hiccup before the Giants started pouring on some runs. Genki LeClaire got on board in the bottom of the first inning after being walked. The speedy LeClaire wasted no time at first, stealing second, third, and home in due course. 1-1 after one.
Solter struck out the side in the top of the second inning, adding three K’s to his eventual total of five. In the bottom half of the second, the Giants got started with Evan Solter outrunning the Terra Linda defense. Solter was then advanced to second after the Trojan’s pitcher balked. In what should have been an RBI line drive to center by Dean Watson, ended when the TL shortstop was standing behind second, catching Solter off base in an improbable double play. The Trojan pitcher could not capitalize on the gift, allowing Jacob Kilonsky and Kyle Felder to score after walking several batters. 3-1 after two innings.
Jeremy Sellier entered the game after two and a third innings of no hit pitching in relief of Solter. Sellier added two strikeouts of his own to combine with Solter to strike out the side in the top half of the third inning. In the bottom half of the third, the Giants stayed true to fashion with an offensive explosion, scoring four runs with timely hitting from Enzo Santa, Evan Solter, Zack Gordon, Jake Hake, Ryan Jessen and Kyle Felder. Nick Cook then cleared the bases with an inside the park homerun. 9 to 1 after three innings.
Haiden Jones entered the game in the fourth and pitched his team out of a bases loaded situation, taking matters into his own hands with one strike out and fielding two himself to end the threat. After a scoreless fourth inning, the fifth inning got started with a Ryan Jessen bomb to the Al Endriss scoreboard in deep center field for a double, scoring Genki LeClaire. (10-1) The game ended on a Enzo Santa two run dinger over the center field fence-his second homerun of the season. Final score-12 to 1 Giants.
Some notable stats from Ryan Jessen (2 for 4 at the plate with a single, double and a run), Kyle Felder (2 RBI’s, 2 Runs), Nick Cook (HR, 2RBI’s, 2Runs) and Enzo Santa (HR, 2RBI’s, 2Runs).
