By beating Marin Catholic on Saturday, Redwood Freshmen joined Varsity and JV in besting the cross town rivals. Out of the gate, the defense let MC know who was in charge. The lead off MC batter hit the first pitch sharply up the middle, but Pascal Brassey was there for the catch. Blake Cusick and the fielders retired the side. Behind Blake’s efficient pitching, the defense kept the Wildcats scoreless through 3 innings.
In the bottom of the first, Makie Skall took one for the team and went to 1st on a hit by pitch. Noah Arrick delivered a signature double to bring Makie home.
For the next two innings, the pitchers and fielders duked it out keeping all runners from crossing home.
In the top of the fourth, Marin Catholic combined aggressive base running, while taking advantage of timely errors to take the lead at 2-1.
Bottom four, Redwood said, “Ah, hey, we can do that too!” In a full team effort Redwood posted four runs to retake the lead! Notable efforts where Makie Skall’s taking another pitch in the back and Andreas Gleckman walking to bring in a run.
MC threatened again in the sixth adding a run, but in the end, Redwood said, “sorry, not in our back yard.” Oliver Pearson and the defense shut down the boys in blue.
Notable hitting includes: Cale Tippet singled, Makie Skall singled with an RBI, Josh Cohen singled with an RBI, Noah Arrick doubled and singled, Jake Kristy singled with an RBI. Michael Conners walked and got to first on an error. Pascal Brassey took second on a dropped third strike and error.
