3/12: Following a rain-shortened non-conference schedule that saw them go 2-1, the JV Giants opened up MCAL play in strong fashion with an 8-0 road victory over Tamalpais to run their record to 3-1.
Mikey Bender started on the mound for the Giants and overpowered the Tam hitters, striking out seven over 5 1/3 innings. Bender also managed to pick two Tam runners off of first base in his stint on the mound.
After four scoreless innings, the Giants put up crooked numbers in the fifth and sixth innings. A four-run fifth inning was highlighted by RBI singles from Sam Rice and Thomas Johnson, and the Giants added three more in the sixth inning on a two-RBI double by Charlie Ginsburg and an RBI single from Parker McMillan. Isaak Irmini-Kreft drove in Jack Bober with an RBI single in the top of the seventh for the Giants’ final run.
Ginsburg closed the game for the Giants with three strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings on the bump.
Tommy Quanstrom, Irmini-Kreft and Rice led the Giants in hits on the day with two apiece.
Quick turnaround for the Giants as they play at home against San Marin on Wednesday, March 13 in the makeup of a previously rained out contest. Game is at 4:30 at Endriss Field.
