In the three pitching categories the Marin Independent Journal ranks for MCAL prep sports, as of Monday, Tyler Peck is ranked #3 or better in their season rankings. Tyler did nothing to hurt his rankings on Tuesday as he pitched a complete game shut out, striking out 6 Drake hitters. The Giants needed a shut-out performance from Peck as Will Martel stymied their bats and held Redwood to just four hits. The Giants waited until the top of the 7th to score when Sophmore Aubrey Sine reached base on a Drake error and Zach Cohen ripped a triple, scoring Sine. Besides Cohen, Adam Hussain contributed a bingo and Devon Pence had 2 of the Giants 4 hits. Pence also contributed in the field and was in the middle of the game ending play. Drake led off the bottom of the 7th with a walk. The walk was followed by a single that put the tying run on 3rd and the winning run on 1st. Peck struck out the next batter and then with one out, Drake hit a ball up the middle that seemed like it would surely be a base hit and tie the game up. However, Riley Overend made a diving stop, flipped the ball to Pence who fired it to Kopstein for a 4-6-3 double-play. Game over. Redwood hosts San Rafael on Thursday at Moody Field.
