4/2: After splitting two tight non-conference games against Cardinal Newman (5-4 loss) and Petaluma (3-2 win), on a drizzly day in Kentfield the JV Giants were unable to maintain their undefeated status in MCAL play, losing by a count of 5-1 to Marin Catholic.
Lefty Riley Schon started on the mound for MC and held the Giants to one run and a single hit over five and a third innings.
Mikey Bender got the start on the mound for the Giants and competed hard in less than ideal weather conditions, surrendering five runs (three earned) over four plus innings. MC broke open a 2-1 game with three runs in the bottom of the fifth without generating a single base hit, aided by bases on balls, hit batsmen and some suboptimal defense from the Giants.
The Giants bats were quiet for most of the game, mustering only two hits total. MC’s defense also turned in several outstanding defensive plays to keep the Giants offense down. Tommy Quanstrom drove in the Giants sole run with an RBI double.
The Giants record now stands at 4-1 in MCAL play and 7-3 overall. The Giants will look to shake this one off and wake up the bats at San Marin on Thursday. First pitch at 4:30 PM.
