The 10-2 Giants have many weapons and tonight the boys showed their depth with a twelve hit, nine run victory over the vastly improved Trojans from Terra Linda High School. Head coach, Billy Jack Ryan, handed the ball to Cole Zesiger for the start, striking out the side in order to start the game. In the bottom half of the first, Redwood would get their offense started with a Sam Warren lead-off single to right field. Warren then promptly stole second. After, Jacob Klionsky hugged the plate, drawing a walk and leaving the Giants with runners at first and second base for clean-up batter, Jack Morken, who drove the ball into right field for an RBI single (1-0). Jack would successfully steal second base, setting up Maxim Kawashima, who hit a double to right field, scoring Morken (2-0, Redwood after one).
Zesiger struck out his fourth opponent and stayed perfect until conceding a walk in the second. After, in the third inning, the Giants slipped into some unwanted granting of free bases and eventually allowed three runs to score.
In the bottom half of the third inning, Jacob Klionsky singled to left. Jack Morken then drove the ball to left center field for a stand-up triple, scoring Klionsky (3-3, after three). Not going away, the Trojans manufactured two runs in the top of the fourth to take the lead but that would not last.
Down one run in the fourth, Nick Cook would lead off with a double to left-center field. Cook went on to brazenly steal third. Next, Jarod Robinow singled up the middle to score Cook (5-4, TL). After, JR stole second before Sam Warren tripled to left-center field, scoring Robinow and notching the game at five a piece. Jacob Klionsky then put the Giants back on top with a hard line drive to left, scoring Warren (6-5, Redwood).
Coach Ryan then leaned on Maxim Kawashima, who entered the game in the fifth inning, throwing 54 pitches through 2.2 innings of work, striking out five batters. Max would contribute a second hit in the bottom of the fifth and steal second base. Keeping his hitting streak alive, Haiden Jones singled to left, scoring Kawashima (7-5). Nick Cook then singled home Haiden Jones with his second hit of the contest (8-5, Redwood, after five).
In the sixth inning, Jeremy Sellier drew a walk. Jack Morken then hit a towering fly ball off the left center-field fence to compliment his three hit day. Sellier would end up at third base. After a wild pitch, Jeremy would cross home plate for the final run of the day. Jack Hake entered the game to close out the Trojans with four pitches and secure the win. Final score: 9-5, Giants.
The Giants tallied twelve hits, nine runs with no errors. Between Zesiger, Jessen, Simonson, Kawashima and Hake, the Giants threw 151 pitches in the winning effort.
Redwood will next host Justin-Siena High School this Friday, March 31st at Moody Field. First pitch-4:30 p.m.
