The Redwood Freshmen traveled to Novato on Saturday and came away with a 14-0 win moving their MCAL record to 2-0 and their overall mark to 6-2.
Redwood pitchers have yet to give up a hit in MCAL play as three pitchers combined for a 5-inning no-hitter. Matt Birchenough started and pitched the first three frames followed by Jesse Gassman and Willie Sine. The defense was equally impressive as Redwood played error free baseball for the second game in a row.
Nick Welch drove in Lucas Roy with a hard single in the first inning and the Giants never looked back scoring runs in all five innings of the shortened game.
In the second inning Birchenough and Matthew Smalbach drove in a run apiece and Redwood increased its lead to 3-0.
Redwood added five more runs in the third inning with all five runs coming with two outs. Jake Gassman got things started by driving in Welch with a single. Gassman came around to score on a single by Birchenough and after a walk to Smalbach, Satoshi Miki drove them both in with a single to left. An RBI single by Jesse Gassman capped the scoring making it 8-0.
Redwood would not let up tacking on another five-spot in the fourth inning. Jackson Reed walked with the bases loaded to drive in Cameron Gregory. Jack van Hooser then roped a double to right center plating both Sander Leszczynski and Zach Bjursten. Jesse Gassman and Drake Goodman added an RBI each to make it 13-0.
Willie Sine finished the scoring for Redwood driving in Jackson Reed with an RBI single for the 14-0 final score. Sine also made an appearance on the mound coming in with 2 outs in the bottom of the inning. After throwing two pitches he spun and fired a throw to second, picking off the runner and ending the game.
